“The well-being of mankind, it's peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.

Exploring Racial Justice

The oneness of humanity sounds simple, but has profound implications when we explore the countless dimensions and layers of oneness.

Families also benefit from periodically meeting in a retreat setting, where units of families from various immigrant populations spend a weekend together. The conversations at family retreats are often on the application of the Bahá’í teachings to the challenges of their lives. Families develop friendships across language and culture as they prepare food, observe their children engaging in activities together, and pray throughout the weekend. Stirrings of social action emerge from an environment of mutual support and interaction with the Word of God. One parent, departing a retreat said: “thank you for saving our culture.”

Mexican American youth encourage reaching out to African immigrant families in order to embrace diversity and build community, leading to Mexican American and African families coming together through children’s classes and then a family camp where all share cultures despite language barriers and open to overcome racial biases.

Classes for Children

The aim is to build a strong moral framework that will assist children to achieve excellence in material, intellectual, health and moral aspects of life. Much like a young tree, children will grow and develop in whatever way they are trained and according to the influences they experience. The classes encourage children to recognize their own nobility and the inherent nobility of their friends. The children acquire knowledge and moral capacities which they can integrate into their everyday lives.

Uplifting The Human Spirit

Bahá’ís also host gatherings in which friends, Bahá’ís and others alike, unite together in prayer, often in one another’s homes. Devotional meetings such as these serve to awaken spiritual susceptibilities within the participants, and in concert with the acts of service they perform, lead to a pattern of community life that is infused with the spirit of devotion and focused on the attainment of spiritual and material prosperity.

What do Bahá'í believe?

The Bahá’í Faith is a system of belief and action based on the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh; that all people are essentially the members of one human family, that we must all learn to live in peace and harmony, and that this represents the next stage of God’s purpose for humanity – a purpose that is progressively revealed to us, over ages and centuries, as our capacity allows.

In many volumes of writings, collected during a lifetime of imprisonment and exile, Bahá’u’lláh gave us insights and direction for dealing with the questions and problems of the modern world. Who is God? How can we understand God? Why are the religions different? What is the purpose of life? Is there hope for this world? How can we reconcile our differences and bring about peace? The answers to questions like these, from the writings of Bahá’u’lláh, inform our efforts to better ourselves as individuals and to contribute to our communities.

Throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine Educators—known as Manifestations of God—whose teachings have provided the basis for the advancement of civilization. These Manifestations have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Bahá’u’lláh, the latest of these Messengers, explained that the religions of the world come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.

Bahá’ís believe the crucial need facing humanity is to find a unifying vision of the future of society and of the nature and purpose of life. Such a vision unfolds in the writings of Bahá’u’lláh.
